Day 18,
I finally finished all the new abilities I wanted to work on.
One of the main mechanics is the ability to interrupt the enemy. Interrupting them simply stuns them and sets their intended ability on CD. Previously, each class had the ability "interrupt," which did a little damage and interrupted the target. In the many runs, I found this ability itself pretty hindering. While interupting was fun and challenging, interupting an enemy comes with the cost of losing "will" (basically the Ultimate-Meter Unit). But in many cases, I wanted to interrupt and do my combo or use my build. So why not have the best of both worlds? Now each ability can be used as an interrupt with just a click on the interrupt button. Let's see how it feels in the next few runs to be more flexible in this decision.
The UI is not finalized and just some rectangles. left the current turn; the higher the turn, the harder it is to get will. The blue bar is the current will amount, and the right is the icon to do an interrupt with the next ability.
Another thing I added was a simpler view of what an enemy intends to do and who he is targeting. The player could see what the intended ability does and who he is targeting in the small enemy window on the bottom right. In some cases, this was fine, but most of the time it was hard to process which member was actually targeted and which enemy did what on the field. A lot of hovering was the answer to finding out who attacked who.
The number represent which member is targeted.
Now, with the press of a button, the player can get an overview of who targets whom. The next step is to implement two indications: if an ability is "strong" or does a lot of damage, and if a member would (probably) die from all the incomming attacks. I have some ideas on how to do this, so I might finish it in the next few days.
After that, I want to look at the KI a little bit more. I have some design ideas on how to make them more fun to battle against.
